Rubin Crockett

NATCHEZ — Services for Rubin Lloyd Calvit Crockett, 35, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at Ochsner St. Anne Hospital in Lafourche, La., will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Christian Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Russell Anderson officiating.

Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.

Mr. Crockett was born May 23, 1973, in Adams County, the son of Rubin Calvit Jr. and Annabelle Crockett. He was baptized and attended King Solomon Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Natchez-Adams School District and a graduate of the school of cosmetology where he received his state board license and was employed by J.C. Penney Beauty Salon. He later built and fully equipped his own beauty/barbershop in his mother’s backyard and was constantly busy doing hair and nails. He had recently attended a welding class at Copiah-Lincoln Community College, Natchez Campus and received a welding class certificate and obtained employment with Bollinger Shipyard in Lockport, La., where he was employed at the time of his death.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Luther and LaEtna McNeil; one brother, Charles Crockett Jr.; and one nephew Tony Crockett.

Survivors include a loving and devoted wife, Tamika; his parents; seven children, Asia Gabriel “Gabby” Crockett, Paris Abigail “Abby” Crockett, Kendall Nichols, LaKendra Smith, Jada Green, Iesha Jackson and Shawanda Evans; grandmother, Dollie Lee Calvit; one sister, Dearie Crockett; one brother, Sean Crockett and wife, Nicole, all of Natchez; mother-in-law, Bettie Evans of Belzoni; four aunts, Mable Calvit of Natchez, Ola P. Kirk and husband, Sylvester, of Cleveland, Judy C. Willis and husband, Willis, Indiana and Easter Chandler and husband, Calvin, of California; two uncles, Andrew Calvit and wife, Jessie, and Robert Calvit and wife, Margaret, all of Natchez; one sister-in-law, Felicia Smith; one brother-in-law, Marcus Smith; and a favorite cousin, Anthony “Tony” Calvit.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
