MERIDIAN — Natchez High’s boys track team had several first-place finishes during the Regional 3-5A Meet Thursday, but a third-place finish in the 4×400 relay cost the Bulldogs an opportunity to finish first overall.

Instead, they had to settle for third place with a total of 105 points. Meridian ended up in first place with 117 points, and Brandon was second with 107 points. But all in all, Natchez High track coach Larry Wesley was more than pleased with how the boys’ team did.

“It was a good meet for us. I felt good about this loss because a couple of kids were sick,” Wesley said. “We’ll do better next week. We’ll win the 4×400 relay next week.”

On the girls’ side, Natchez High finished fourth overall with 55 points. Brandon came in first with 130 points, followed by Meridian with 98 points and Oak Grove with 86 points.

Alicia Wimley won the 400-meter dash and the triple jump, came in second in the 100-meter dash and was on the 4×200 relay team that finished in third place. Pam Selman had third-place finishes in the 800-meter run and the 1600-meter run.

The Class 5A South State Meet will take place Saturday, May 2 in Gulfport. Only the top four finishers in each event from the Regional meet advance to the South State meet.
