NATCHEZ — Services for Obediah McKnight Jr., 97, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at the Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. Percy Turner officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church Cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from noon until 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. McKnight was born May 15, 1912, in Natchez, the son of Obediah McKnight Sr. and Annie Watkins McKnight. He was formerly employed with Armstrong Tire and Rubber Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sons, Nathaniel, Carl and Dwayne McKnight; and five siblings, William, Isaac, Thomas, Izola and Barbara McKnight.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Frances Marie Drake McKnight; one son, Lawrence McKnight; three daughters, Dorothy Briggs Smith and husband, Vincent, of Chicago, Virginia Myles and husband, Izear, and Ethel Morris, all of Natchez; seven grandchildren, Sandy, Michael and Cory Briggs, all of Chicago, Tammie Dukes and husband, James, of Dover, Del., Kenneth McKnight and wife, Vanessa, Velveeta Jones, all of Natchez, and Katrina McKnight of Jackson; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
