WCCA girls take overall

CLINTON — The Wilkinson County Christian girls track team won the MPSA overall track meet Saturday, blowing away the competition.

WCCA scored 97.25 points, and the next closest opponent, The Veritas School, recorded 58 points.

“The girls, when it came to running today, did a wonderful job,” WCCA athletic director Sam Byrd said. “Bethany Fletcher finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles, and all three relay teams took first place.”

The 4×100-meter relay team of Caroline Walker, Terri Fisher, Mary Claire Netterville and Fletcher set a new state Class A record with a time of 54.26.

Fletcher also won the 400-meter dash and finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles.

The Trinity Episcopal girls placed third in Class AA with 40 points. Jheri Ogden placed second in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:33.01.

The WCCA boys team placed fifth in Class A with 49 points, winning the boys 4×100-meter relay with a time of 44.95 seconds.

Slaydon Stone of Centreville won the Class AA boys pole vault, and Adams County Christian’s Lee Swinney placed sixth.

Abi Brown of Huntington won the girls 300-meter hurdles in class A with a time of 47.57 seconds, and Trinity’s boys 4×200-meter relay team placed sixth in Class AA.

Allie Fontenot won the discus for WCCA, and Walker won the long jump and tied for second in high jump.
