Harris Bateaste

GLOSTER — Services for Harris Leroy Bateaste, 71, of Gloster, who died Thursday, April 30, 2009, at his residence, will be at 11 a.m. today at Homochitto Association Building in Gloster with the Rev. Dalton Hill officiating.
Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Anderson Funeral Home in Gloster.
Mr. Bateaste was born Jan. 16, 1938, in Natchez, the son of William Percy Bateaste and Carrie Wesco Williams. He was a retired logger.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Karen Brown; and one son, Eric McGhee.
Survivors include his wife, Sherrly Bateaste; four sons, Henry Lee and wife, Lynn, Tommy Leroy Bateaste and wife, Jacqueline, and Brandon McGhee, all of Gloster, and Hasaan LeRoyce Bonds of Collins; six daughters, Carrie Cummings and husband, Calvin, of Dayton, Ohio, Carol Buie and husband, Wayne, and Lisa Baldwina, all of Roxie, Etta Taplin and husband, Estes, of Ruth, Gladys Connor of Natchez and LaRoya Sherrell Dickens of Gloster; stepmother, Ruthie Tillery of Crenshaw; two stepdaughters, Felicia Dickens of Gloster and Pamela White of Centreville; four stepsons, Clifton Collins of Scuba, Chris Collins, Kalvin Dickens and Kelvin Dickens, all of Gloster; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five brothers, James Bateaste of Crosby, Charles Bateaste of McComb, Steve and Cleave Tillery of Columbia, S.C., and Charlie Tillery Jr. of Chicago; five sisters, Norvell Williams, Shirley Williams and Arlean Tillery, all of Chicago, Amy Bateaste of Houston, Texas and Marcy Tillery of Crenshaw; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
