VIDALIA — A Ferriday man was arrested after he allegedly tried to flee a deputy, swerve his vehicle and strike a Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office vehicle, CPSO authorities said.
Ronathan D. Quinn, 36, was arrested Wednesday on charges of stop sign violation, no seat belt, flight from an officer, no child restraint, aggravated assault on a police officer, cruelty to a juvenile, improper supervision of a minor child, driving under suspension, obstruction of justice, no insurance and having no driver’s license on person.
The arrest resulted after CPSO Sgt. Denis Mulvihill tried to initiate a traffic stop after he reportedly observed Quinn commit a stop sign violation on Fisherman Drive, a statement from the CPSO said.
Rather than stopping, Quinn allegedly tried to flee and ultimately tried to swerve the vehicle into the CPSO unit, the statement said.
When the vehicle was stopped, a passenger fled the scene on foot, the statement said.
The deputy reportedly found a 7-year-old lying on the vehicle’s back seat unrestrained, the statement said.
State child welfare authorities were contacted about the well-being of the child.
Quinn was detained on a $14,213 bond Friday.
