Natchez — A free musical event will be presented by First Presbyterian Church for the community at 2 p.m. on May 24. Duo pianists, Stella Zedro and Mary Viger will perform in concert on two grand pianos.
The program will include works from classical composers such as Bach, Mozart and Franck and also a two piano arrangement of the famous Toccata for Organ by Widor.
Also included in the program will be excerpts from Billy the Kid by Aaron Copland and works from other 20th century composers.
Stella Ane Zedro, a graduate of Juillard and Manhattan Schools of Music in New York City, began her musical career at the age of 5 in Toledo, Ohio. Her early years of piano study were under Emma Endres Kountz followed by full tuition scholarships to study in New York with Carl Friedburg and Robert Goldsand. Her duo-piano studies were under Robert and Gaby Casadesus and Michael Field of the Fred Waring Appleton Field piano duo.
While in New York, Zedro performed all of the Mozart Violin-Piano Sonatas on the WQXR radio series.
Viger holds a bachelor of music education degree from James Madison University and a master of music education degree from Florida State University. Viger is also a former student of Nadia Boulanger, (theory) and Jean-Jacques Painchaud, (piano) at the American Conservatory, Chateau de Fontainebleau, France.
A reception will follow the concert to meet the artists.
