A week that started out with a bolt and a boom brought by sudden storms straightened out nicely once the power started returning.

Let’s review some of the good news last week brought to the Miss-Lou:

A group from the Southern Baptist Convention came to town Monday to help with cleanup efforts. Their work and their chainsaws were appreciated, and we are glad to know such a helping hand is there when needed.

The Shelby M. Jackson Campus of Louisiana Technical College is preparing to offer several new classes that will allow nursing and emergency services students to obtain better educations right here in the Miss-Lou.

Natchez High School student Hakeem Jones was recognized for his leadership with the school’s JROTC program. Identifying great leaders early is essential to our community’s future, and we are proud of Hakeem.

Residents in Natchez, Vidalia and Ferriday gathered for a word of prayer Thursday. We are happy our local communities are keeping God at the forefront.

Students at Alcorn State University and at the ASU School of Nursing attended graduation ceremonies this week. Approximately 70 nursing students were pinned, and 668 main campus students received diplomas. Congratulations to all those who have completed this course of study.

High school graduations will soon follow, and we know the week to come will be full of good news.
