Habitat work day deemed a success

Habitat wishes to thank all the women who helped build the house for the special Women Build Day on Saturday, May 9. Since it was our first time to participate in this national event, we did not know how many people to expect, but never did we anticipate the 55 and a half who came that day.

We had a very large group from Delta Sigma Theta sorority; 15 of the volunteers identified themselves with that sorority.

We also had representatives from St. Mary Basilica and First Presbyterian Church. Most of the volunteers were simply individuals who wanted to help those in need. One volunteer stated that helping Habitat had long been an item on her “bucket list.”

Habitat hopes that these women will become regulars who can help us build on any Monday, Wednesday or Saturday morning when their schedules allow. For those who were not able to come, Habitat wishes to have a Women Build Day each year and maybe another one that is not part of the national program.

Again, Habitat thanks all who came to work, brought refreshments, or just drove by to see what was happening. Oh, yeah, the number 55 and a half needs some explanation. One of the volunteers was pregnant, and don’t you just know it will be a girl.

If anyone wants information on how to volunteer, make a donation or donate land to Habitat, just call 601-445-8639 or write to Habitat for Humanity, PO Box 100, Natchez, MS, 39121.
