FERRIDAY — Ferriday mayor Glen McGlothin was hospitalized Friday afternoon following a dramatic drop and then spike in his blood pressure, Town Clerk Gayle Cowan said.
The mayor drove himself to Riverland Medical Center at approximately 2 p.m.
McGlothin was at Town Hall when he began feeling ill, Cowan said.
“He was feeling really, really bad,” she said. “He said, ‘It is so hot in here,’ and he was pale and clammy, and then he grabbed his shoulder and chest.
“I said, ‘No, we don’t do this at the office — you are going to the hospital, you are not doing this to me.’”
After running some blood tests, the hospital placed McGlothin in the ICU to allow him to rest, Cowan said.
The mayor will be kept at Riverland overnight for observation, but depending on the results of the blood tests he could be transported to an Alexandria hospital, she said.
“When I left the hospital, he looked OK, so maybe he can get some rest tonight and we will have some good news tomorrow,” Cowan said.
