WOODVILLE — Voters elected longtime alderwoman Sharon Dawson-Robinson as the town’s first female and first black mayor.
Robinson, who ran as an independent, defeated Democratic candidate Kenneth Smith Tuesday night during the town’s general election.
Robinson received 344 votes to Smith’s 239 votes. Twenty affidavit votes have yet to be counted — not enough to change the results of the election.
Smith defeated incumbent mayor Gary Daquilla in the Democratic Primary. Dawson-Robinson ran as a Democrat in her terms as alderwoman, but decided to run as an Independent for mayor.
