Intellectuals at Co-Lin have common sense

Maybe Copiah-Lincoln Community College should begin offering a degree program in common sense.
We say that because once again Co-Lin’s leadership has proven to be among the most book smart and street savvy people in higher education.
Faced with a decreasing budget and the anticipation of further cuts in state funding, Co-Lin’s leaders didn’t get upset.
They didn’t poor mouth the state.
They didn’t pick up their marbles and go home.
They did what many local business leaders have done time and time again — Co-Lin’s team rolled up its sleeves, put on its thinking caps and figured out a way to make things work.
The result is an experiment of sorts to reduce expenses a bit this summer by reducing the hours of operation. By going half a day on Fridays and having staff begin their days 30 minutes earlier, the college will likely save a good bit of money over the summer.
In addition to the expense reduction, the move also has the added benefit of potentially reducing the number of miles students must drive to and from the school by reducing the number of Friday classes.
We’ve said it before, but Co-Lin is one of the best-kept secrets of our region — great educational opportunities led by people with great common sense.
