NATCHEZ — The Cathedral Summer Baseball Tournament got off to a good start Friday, with beautiful weather and good baseball.
The tournament, which concludes today with four games, beginning at 10 a.m. at Chester Willis Field, began Friday with three games.
Host school Cathedral won the first two contests, 10-0 over Monterey and 13-10 over Centreville.
Vidalia defeated Wilkinson County Christian 6-0 in the final game of the day.
“We had a good turnout today,” Cathedral coach Craig Beesley said. “We had some really nice weather, and it was good to be back on the field.”
This is the sixth consecutive year Cathedral has hosted a summer high school baseball tournament, and Beesley said it was good to get the players back in game situations.
“I think a lot of the kids are excited to be back out there playing baseball,” Beesley said. “It’s been over a month since they’ve seen live pitching.”
Beesley said he was pleased with the way his team played, espscially since it has been so long since the team’s last game.
“I feel like we swung the bats well and threw a lot of strikes,” Beesley said. “I was worried about our hitting being late since we haven’t seen a live pitcher for so long, but we hit the ball real well. I was very pleased.”
The tournament concludes today, with all games at Chester Willis Field.
Cathedral will take on Monterey at 10 a.m. followed by Monterey facing off against WCCA at noon.
Vidalia will then take on Centreville Academy at 4 p.m. and the tournament concludes with Vidalia and Cathedral squaring off at 6 p.m.
All of today’s games will take place at Chester Willis Field.
