NATCHEZ — Services for Amanda Lee Haley Sullivan, 86, who died Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with Dr. Douglas Broome and the Rev. Walter Brown officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday, both at the funeral home.
Mrs. Sullivan was born Nov. 29, 1922, in Meadville, the daughter of Richard Spencer Haley and Ona Eliza Stevens Haley. She was a graduate of Meadville High School and received both her bachelor of arts degree and master’s degree in education from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Mrs. Sullivan was an active member of First Baptist Church in Natchez where she served as nursery director and coordinator for many years. She was also a member of the Natchez Garden Club, the Auburn Garden Club and an honorary lifetime member of the Garden Clubs of Mississippi.
Mrs. Sullivan taught elementary school in the Natchez public school system for over 25 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. W.A. Sullivan Jr.; her parents; three brothers, Richard Haley Jr. of Meadville, James Haley of San Antonio, Texas and Walter Haley of Natchez; and one sister, Nannie C. Haley of Jackson.
Mrs. Sullivan will be greatly missed by her surviving family members, including two sons, Will A. Sullivan III and wife, Genie, of Picayune and Richard Sullivan and wife, Brenda, of Brandon; two daughters, Mary Emrick and husband, Fred, of Natchez and Elizabeth Magee and husband, Wiley, of Mendenhall; nine grandchildren, Mindy Gates of Asheville, N.C., Kate Duplantis and husband, Brad, of Richmond, Va., Will Patrick Sullivan and wife, Michelle, of Nashville, Tenn., Spencer Sullivan and wife, Melanie, of Brandon, Lucy Roark and husband, Don, of Brandon, Robert Magee and wife, Aleen, of Hurley, Bert Emrick and wife, Michelle, of Madison, Chuck Emrick of Starkville and Haley Baumgartner and husband, Kermit, of Clinton; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Billie M. Brown of Terry and Naomi Lange of Hollywood, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
