THIBODAUX (AP) — A Mathews mother convicted of murdering her two children has been sentenced to two consecutive life sentences, after a state district judge rejected her request for a new trial.
The jury that convicted 42-year-old Amy Hebert could not reach an unanimous verdict on her sentence. In such cases, state law requires that the defendant get life in prison.
District Judge Jerome Barbera said during Thursday’s hearing that he made the life sentences consecutive because there were two victims and two different acts.
