Will Medicaid holdup hurt doctors?

JACKSON (AP) — The president of the Mississippi State Medical Association disagrees with the governor’s statement that delaying Medicaid reimbursements won’t affect services.
Dr. Randy Easterling of Vicksburg says even a short delay can be very hard on doctors, clinics and hospitals serving many poor people.
The Mississippi Medicaid program warned providers Friday that it’s delaying payments until after July 1.
The program serves almost 600,000 state residents, and is $34 million in the red.
Republican Governor Haley Barbour wants hospitals taxed to help pay for Medicaid. Democratic legislative leaders oppose the idea. Some say it could jeopardize rural hospitals.
The fiscal year ends June 30.
