Franklin County All-Stars win opener

SUMMIT — Paced by four doubles from Garrett Smith, the Franklin County 7-and-8 year All-Stars beat Walthall County 29-3 in first round action of District 6 Coach Pitch tournament at Windsor Gay Dixie Youth Sports Complex.
Coached by Marla Watts, Scott Brumfield, Bill Arnold, and Trent Burris, Franklin County advances to the second round of the tournament in the winner’s bracket.
“I’m proud of my team,” Watts said following the game. “I’m proud of our teamwork and sportsmanship and us executing what we’ve practiced on for two weeks.”
Long practices and patience paid off Tuesday night as the Franklin County All-Stars batted around early and often. Dekevionne Buie ripped an RBI double, one of his four hits on the night to give FC the early edge. Smith followed with some powerful hits as well.
“We’ve got a good bunch,” Watts said.
The entire Franklin County team consisting of Jace Watts, Ashton Arnold, Gavin Burris, Wyatt Brumfield, Jacob Clanton, Issac Harris, Dalivan Hunt, Preston Temple, Wyatt Johnson, and Joshua Guice reached base safely during the contest.
Buie and Smith led all batters with four hits apiece.
