PASCAGOULA — Services for Dorothy Joy Wixon, 80, of Pascagoula, who died peacefully surrounded by her loving family, will be at 3 p.m. today at Arlington Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Ben Carlisle officiating.
Burial will follow at Machpelah Cemetery under the direction of O’Bryant-O’Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until service time today at the church.
Mrs. Wixon was born April 13, 1929, in Mound, La., the daughter of William and Maude Reed. She was a twin in a family of 11 siblings who lovingly called her “Jo Baby.” She married I.A. “Tiny” Wixon in 1951, and in 1960, they moved their family to Pascagoula from Natchez. She was a member of Arlington Heights Baptist Church and a spokesperson and member of the local Pulmonary Fibrosis support group.
Mrs. Wixon was a grandmother to many and a friend to all. She had impeccable strength and character. Her husband of 54 years died two days before Hurricane Katrina, and Mrs. Wixon saw her home flooded by the storm. However, her spirit never wavered and she enjoyed the many volunteers from all over that helped restore her home. Her love for family proved to be the driving force to push her forward. Besides her family, she enjoyed sewing and traveling, with her final trip to Houston, Texas proving to be the best trip of all.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and 11 siblings.
Survivors include two sons, Mike Wixon and wife, Darlene, of Pascagoula and Roy Stephen Wixon and wife, Lu, of Greenville, S.C.; one daughter, Joy Lynn Wixon-Gable of Pascagoula; six grandchildren, Ginger Seaton and husband, Ryan, Jill Becker and husband, Jared, Samuel Gable, Reed Gable, Zoe Lentz and husband, James, and Alex Wroten; her long-awaited great-grandchild, Audrey Becker; and specially loved and devoted niece and nephew, Sissy and Doug Morse of Houston.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Wixon, Jared Becker, Ryan Seaton, Doug Morse, Richard Jones, Michael Wisniewski, Ron Henderson and Keith Gable.
The family personally thanks Dr. Babar and his staff of Ocean Springs Hospital for giving Joy several more years of life and memories.
“How can we thank God enough for you in return for all the joy that we feel before our God because of you?” Thessalonians 3:9
