MILWAUKEE — After a week of pinch-hitting appearances and mop-up duty at second base, Vidalia native Jarrett Hoffpauir finally got his first career start in the Major Leagues.

Hoffpauir started at second base for the St. Louis Cardinals against the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday, going 0-for-3 with a walk.

Hoffpauir batted seventh in the Cardinals lineup, flying out to left in the third inning, striking out in the fifth and flying out to right field in the eighth.

He did draw a walk in the seventh inning, but was stranded at first base.

He also turned the first double play of his career in the second inning, off the bat of Milwaukee’s Casey McGehee.

The Cardinals won the game 5-1, scoring all five runs in the eighth inning.

St. Louis will now travel to Chicago to take on the Cubs in a three-game series beginning today.
