NATCHEZ — The sounds of children hyper from summer vacation were replaced with gentle adult laughter and praise Thursday at Pilgrim Baptist Church’s Vacation Bible School. The church worked in conjunction with the Natchez Senior Center last week to have the unconventional Vacation Bible School.

A group of about 20 senior citizens rode the bus, provided by Natchez Transit, to the church where Deacon Samuel White Sr. lead them in his lesson “The Books of the Bible.”

During the lesson, the class participants asked White several questions regarding scripture and were eager to talk about their relationships with the Lord.

The group concluded the lesson with a hymn and prayer.

“I enjoyed the reading and having it explained to me,” citizen Dorothea Chatman said.

Last year was the first year that the Senior Center decided to do a week-long Vacation Bible School.

“They enjoyed it the first time, so we came back,” senior center activity assistant Peggy Scales said. “They’re getting the word.”

Even though this year’s session is over, the group from the Senior Center will continue to worship at Pilgrim Baptist Church at 10 a.m. the third Thursday of every month.
