NATCHEZ — Two Natchez teens have been arrested stemming from a July 5 carjacking.
Adams County Sheriff’s Investigator Ricky Stevens said Kenari Screws, 18, and Jovon Singleton, 17, allegedly flagged down a driver at a stop sign in the Broadmoor area and asked for a ride to a nearby convenience store at approximately 11 p.m.
When the driver, Quentin Nelson, pulled over, the two teens got into the vehicle.
A short time later Singleton allegedly pulled out a gun and demanded Nelson relinquish the vehicle, Stevens said.
Nelson fought with Singleton and one shot was fired inside the car.
Nelson was later able to escape from the vehicle in the Airport Road area and hid in nearby bushes.
Later that day the same vehicle, a 1992 Ford Crown Victoria with $100 bills painted on the hood and doors, was used in a gas theft in Lincoln County, and spotted again later in Copiah County.
When authorities in Lincoln County attempted to pull the vehicle over, Screws allegedly tried to evade authorities and, after a brief chase, crashed the car, Stevens said.
There were no injuries as a result of the crash.
Screws, the alleged driver, is still being held in Copiah County on charges of felony fleeing.
Singleton, the alleged gunman, was released to the ASCO, and has been charged with armed carjacking and is being held without bail.
