FERRIDAY – Services for Edith Kay Falkenheiner Burson, 63, of Kingwood, Texas, who died Thursday, July 23, 2009, at her residence, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Young’s Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Burson was born Oct. 1, 1945, in Ferriday, the daughter of Henry and Edith Falkenheiner.
After attending Northeast College, she met and married William Burson and they moved to Ohio and later, Texas. They had two daughters, Belinda Kay and Karena Lynn. Kay was an accountant in the oil industry and retired from Texaco in 1992 after being diagnosed with cancer in 1991. She fought and won this battle with cancer but spent the next 17 years courageously living with numerous other medical problems. She fought every day for more time to be with her family.
Kay adored birthdays, Christmas and Easter, always going overboard on the food and gifts! She also was a true animal lover, allowing her daughters almost any pet they desired – from fish to rabbits to dogs and cats (and everything in between). There was rarely a time she didn’t pick up a stray and find it a home. Five years ago she adopted a boxer, Merry, from a local shelter. She and Merry were fast friends and Kay chose to live independently primarily to be with Merry. Kay’s greatest love was her five grandchildren. She spent the first four months of her first grandson’s life caring for him during the day while her son-in-law worked and her daughter traveled heavily for business. As a result, she was the first to see many of his milestones. She had a unique relationship with each of the grandchildren, but had a particularly special bond with her only granddaughter, Makinley. Makinley is very possessive of, and referred to Kay as, “my Nana” (often not wanting to admit that Nana belonged to four others too).
Survivors include two daughters, Belinda Burson Cuffe and husband, Ted, of Cypress, Texas and Karena Burson-Reuter and husband, Darryl, of Kingwood, Texas; five grandchildren, Tyler Teykl, Cooper Cuffe, Colton, Makinley and Landon Reuter; two sisters, Mildred Falkenheiner Peterson and husband, Forrest, and family and Margaret Falkenheiner Welch and family.
