July wraps up with busy, good week

The last week of July definitely wasn’t a quiet one in the Miss-Lou. The annual Natchez Food & Wine Festival brought fun and full bellies to town. Federal grants brought the promise of money and needed improvements. And the Historic Natchez Foundation got its biggest gift ever — Brandon Hall.
Let’s take few minutes to review the good news that came our way last week.
Natchez resident Jaylan Green has received the Youth Ambassador of the Year Award from America Reads. The 10-year-old Morgantown student earned the honor for her academic work and her willingness to help other students.
Jaylan is a role model for her peers and we congratulate her on the honor.
The Vidalia port project will receive $1.5 million in federal dollars to construct a roadway to the facility. The road should help pave the way to a second Vidalia industrial park and further growth.
Ferriday will receive a $250,000 grant to do emergency repairs to its ailing water system. The money isn’t just needed, it’s a must.
Efforts to promote regionalism are ongoing, and a steering committee has been formed to explore ideas that will benefit Natchez, Vidalia and Ferriday.
With August comes school and football. Our days won’t be slow and relaxing for much longer. But fall is fun, and we know the month will bear plenty of good news.
