NATCHEZ — School buses should be running as scheduled this morning.

After a week of negotiations and a threat of a potential strike, Durham School Services and its bus drivers came to an agreement Tuesday that will reportedly keep buses on the roads.

Today is the first day of school for the Natchez-Adams School District.

“The drivers are happy with the situation and will be reporting to transport the kids,” said Durham School Services spokeswoman Tiffini Bloniarz.

Regional Vice President of Durham School Services Dave Brabender said everyone worked together to come to an agreement.

Bloniarz said she doesn’t believe there will be any more issues regarding the settlement and the company does not anticipate a similar situation happening again.

“We are happy we will be able to transfer the students on the first day of school,” she said.

Brabender said no bus drivers were fired or resigned.

Durham School Services is a private company contracted by the Natchez public schools to handle transportation.
