The path was paved for a $6 million county road project Tuesday, but a hard left turn has us wondering just where this lane may be going.

The Adams County Board of Supervisors made the right decision when they opted to wait on the $6 million bond. They haven’t yet made a budget for the year, and they’ve never asked the taxpayers for their opinion on the matter.

But the county leaders opted to do things in their all too familiar fashion — behind closed doors.

We are unsure why a decision on a road bond qualified for executive session, and their secrecy has us questioning their motives.

Now that the road bond is temporarily off the table, we hope a roads versus recreation battle isn’t bubbling up from below.

It would be easy to tell the taxpayers that a vote for recreation is a vote against smooth roads.

But such a statement simply wouldn’t be true.

The taxpayers can have both if they want.

Supervisors need to lay out all of the options for financing future projects on the table and gauge public input.

The long-term benefits of a recreation complex will touch far more people than new pavement on a county road will.
