VIDALIA — The Union Baptist Church on Deer Park Road in Vidalia hosted Vacation Bible School from June 22-26.
The week-long program met daily from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church. The theme was Studio Go!
The director and co-directors were Irma Felton and Audrey Bowman.
Each day, a different lesson was taught to discover how God empowered Biblical servants to live for Him and how He is doing the same things today.
Lesson one was titled “Go Lead!” and told the story of Gideon who was assigned the duty of leading an army to defeat the midianties.
An angel instructed Gideon to take the lead in driving out the invaders. An army of volunteers were raised. Later it was downsized to 300 men.
Gideon was sent to the enemy camp every night and discovered they were afraid. Finally, Gideon’s army armed themselves with trumpets and torches.
When the noise blared and lights flashed, the enemies panicked and killed themselves. Then the people of Israel knew it was the Lord’s work and worshipped an obeyed him.
Lesson two was called “Go Risk.” It told the story of Esther and how she risked her life to save her people.
Deputy Carol A. Brown form Concordia Parish Sheriff Department enlightened the audience on taking good and bad risks. Examples were given to children and demonstrations were performed by children and adults.
Several scriptures were given out that can be recalled when caught up in a situation and need an answer. The lesson taught to always contact God because He is never too busy.
The outage of the church’s air conditioning unit caused the last three sessions to be taught at a later date.
They were “Go Tell,” which states that Christians should be witnesses for Jesus and tell others of his miracleous power.
Lesson four, “Go Obey” taught that Christians must use the Bible as a guide for life and obey God rather than man.
The last lesson was “Go Serve.” The children were able to give their experiences of serving others at home, school, community and church.
Serving was made real to them, when they listed some ways in which they served in church.
They are ushers, choir members, deacons, deaconessses, janitors and teachers.
Refreshments were served nightly.
Church deacons Jeffrey Banks and Thad Singleton did the opening exercises nightly.
Evangelist Eva Banks closed out the session with praise and encouragement to all participants.
