CLINTON, La. — Just when it looked like the Centreville Academy Lady Tigers were going to put a stop to their three-game losing streak, the Silliman Institute Lady Wildcats rallied for two runs in the bottom of the 10th inning for a dramatic 6-5 win Thursday night.
“It was a good game. A tough one to lose,” Centreville head coach Mark Mann said. “The girls never quit. They kept a good attitude, and so did Silliman.”
Centreville fell to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in Mississippi Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) District 5-AA.
The game was scoreless through the first two innings, but Centreville finally broke the tie by scoring one run in the top of the third inning. Tori Rouse hit a triple and later scored. However, Silliman responded by scoring three runs in the bottom of the third
Centreville scored one run in the top of the sixth inning to make it a 3-2 game and sent the game into extra innings with one run in the top of the seventh.
Both teams scored one run in the ninth inning to keep the game going. The Lady Tigers took a 5-4 lead in the top of the 10th, but they could not hold on to the lead.
Centreville had six hits in the game to just three for Silliman, but the Lady Wildcats took advantage of six errors by the Lady Tigers.
“The errors were spread out, but they were costly errors. They either scored runs or put runners on base,” Mann said. “A couple of them could have been the third out of the inning.”
Centreville will take on Copiah Academy at 9 a.m. today in its first game at the Amite School Center Tournament in Liberty.
Bowling Green 10, Centreville 1 (Tuesday night)
CENTREVILLE — After getting off to a 4-0 start, the Centreville Lady Tigers dropped their game in a row after losing to the Bowling Green School Lady Buccaneers Tuesday night.
Centreville was trying to get back to its winning ways after losses at the Copiah Academy Tournament to Jackson Prep and host Copiah Academy last Saturday. But that was not meant to be as Bowling Green pitcher MacKayla Dykes held the Lady Tigers to just one hit in the six-inning contest — a triple by Katie Vine.
Bowling Green struck first with four runs in the top of the first inning. Centreville scored one run in the bottom of the first, but Dykes pitched five straight scoreless innings after that.
Even though the four runs in the first would be all the run support Dykes would need, the Lady Buccaneers scored one run in the top of the fourth inning and five more an inning later.
Dykes helped her own cause by going 3-for-4 with three runs batted in and Karolyn Pierce went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs to lead the visiting team’s nine-hit attack. Bowling Green was also aided by four Centreville errors.
