NATCHEZ — Services for Valarie Renee Prater Lyles, 48, who died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pilgrim Baptist Church with the Rev. Glen Lyles officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church Cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until service time Sunday at the church.
Mrs. Lyles was born July 7, 1961, in Natchez, the daughter of Charles Eugene Prater and Bessie Mae Prater. She was a 1979 graduate of North Natchez High School, where she was a member of the Ramselle Dance Group. She was also a 1983 graduate of Jackson State University where she received a bachelor of arts degree in office administration. She was a member of Phi Beta Lambda.
It was in Atlanta, Valarie began her career at Olgelthope Power Company as a computer operator for 16 years. Her last career move was to Grady Memorial Hospital as Medicaid coordinator until her illness in 2008.
She was preceded in death by her father; and one brother, Reginald Prater.
Survivors include a devoted husband, Raymond Lyles; one daughter, Jasmine Renee Lyles; one son, Jordon Raymond Lyles; her mother of Natchez; two brothers, Charles E. Prater and Mary of Terry and Ricardo E. Prater of Atlanta; two sisters, Jacqueline Nichols and husband, Billy, and Vanessa L. Ealey and husband, Melvin, all of Natchez; mother-in-law, Mildred Lyles of Natchez; brother-in-law, Glen Lyles; sister-in-law, Dwana Lyles, both of Mound Bayou; four aunts, Bernice Wallace and Octavia Stewman, both of Natchez, Velma Wesley and husband, the Rev. Willie Wesley, and Ora Prater, all of New Orleans; one uncle, Joseph Prater and wife, Dorothy, of Metairie, La.; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be 1979 class members and cousins.
