FERRIDAY — A New Orleans man learned Tuesday that you can’t hide from the long arm of the law — not even in the ceiling.
Ferriday Police arrested Armond T. Lewis, 23, 5329 Timberhaven Lane, New Orleans, Tuesday night on charges of simple burglary and simple criminal damage to property after he allegedly burglarized Taunton’s Superette on Louisiana Avenue.
After the store closed, a neighbor called police and reported they had seen someone enter the store, Assistant Police Chief Johnny Evans said.
When police arrived, they reportedly discovered Lewis hiding in a duct in the ceiling, Evans said.
“He didn’t get a chance to take anything because (officers) got there before he could exit the building,” Evans said.
Lewis was charged with simple criminal damage to property because he allegedly tore some of the ducts and damaged insulation when climbing into the ceiling, Evans said.
Judge Leo Boothe set Lewis’ bond at $10,000 Wednesday morning.
