HAYNESVILLE, La. — The Huntington Hounds needed to bounce back and they did.

Thanks to an outstanding all-around performance by Eric Bowens and a solid defensive effort in the second half, the Hounds defeated the Claiborne Academy Rebels 46-22 Friday night for their first win of the season.

“We started off sloppy. But once the second quarter started, we started clicking. We kept the game close at the half,” Huntington head coach Chad Harkins said. “Our team stepped it up in the second half. Defensively, we gave up a few scores. Claiborne scored all 22 points in the first half. Defense stepped up in the second half.”

Bowens led Huntington’s offense with 12 carries for over 300 yards and he added two receptions for nearly 100 yards.

“He had a big game for us on the ground,” Harkins said. “He scored five or six touchdowns. Offensive line did a lot better job. They fought real hard and improved from last week.”
