NATCHEZ — Services for Mother Mamie Dooley Pernell, 88, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009, at Glenburney Nursing Center, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Pleasant Green Baptist Church with the Rev. Ernest Ford officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.
Visitation will be at 6 p.m. Sunday, with Order of Eastern Star Rites and from 10 a.m. until service time Monday, both at the church.
Mrs. Pernell was born April 25, 1921, in Natchez, the daughter of William and Bessie Dooley. She attended Brumfield High School and Jackson State University. She was employed by Jefferson Davis Memorial Hospital and Natchez Stewpot. She was retired.
Mrs. Pernell served as an usher and on the Mother’s Board at her church. She was Past Grand Matron of Adah Grand Chapter, member of Victory No. 4 L.E. Spencer Past Matron’s Council, Pinkie Jackson No. 1 Amaranth Court and Daughter of Sphinx Alkoran Court No. 1. She loved her members of the Order of Eastern Star and served until her health failed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Pernell; two daughters, Alene Harris and Lenora Marie Dixon; her parents; two sisters, Parthenia Hamilton and Bessie Robinson; and two brothers, Issac Williams and Johnny Williams.
Survivors include three sons, William Washington and wife, Faye, Leon Davis and wife, Alberta, and Antonio Davis Pernell and wife, Ashton; two daughters, Ruth Parthenia Dixon and Beverly Reed and husband, Wayne; seven grandchildren, Sharon, Patrice, Debra, Glyn, Wayne Allen, Christopher and Makenzie Jaliyah; and one godson, Arthur Jackson and wife, Luridean.
Pallbearers will be Mason brothers.
