NATCHEZ — Visitation for Nellie Rae Wisner Black, 90, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009, at Adams County Nursing Center, will be from 10 to 11 a.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel.
A private burial ceremony will be at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Mrs. Black was born Feb. 24, 1919, in Wilkinson County, the daughter of William Enlow Wisner and Mary Ruth Cason Wisner. She was educated at Beech Stand School in Crosby. Mrs. Black moved to Natchez in 1937, and was employed by Blue Bell Garment Factory until her marriage on Oct. 1, 1940, to her husband of 61 years, Ernest Templeton Black. She spent the rest of her life as a homemaker. She loved her family and her greatest joy was the time spent with her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Black was a member of the Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one sister, Mary Lee Wisner Tolliver.
Survivors include one daughter, Vernona Black Sanders Buie and husband, Robert; one son, Elwood Black and wife, Carol, all of Natchez; three grandchildren, David Sanders and wife, Jeanne, of Vicksburg, Jeff Sanders and wife, Joanne, of Slidell, La., and Lauren Black of Natchez; four great-grandchildren, Robert Sanders and Christopher Sanders, both of Vicksburg, Sarah Sanders and A.J. Sanders, both of Slidell; a special niece, Joyce Tucker and husband, Charles, of Sylacauga, Ala.; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Memorials may be made to Judge George W. Armstrong Library, Public Radio Broadcast Fund, or a charity of choice.
