For those lucky enough to have Labor Day off from work and free of stress — enjoy the day. And, just to help you smile, let’s review the good news of last week.

Enterprising teens highlighted the week with good deeds around town.

Parker Cavin, 16, and his friends from Boy Scout Troop 168 spent Saturday morning at the Natchez City Cemetery doing a little fall cleaning. Cavin has chosen the cemetery for the site of his Eagle Scout project. His group is painting, scrubbing monuments and picking up limbs. This group reminds us that we’ll be leaving our town in good hands in the future.

Martin Charboneau, 16, spends his Wednesday nights now performing at Jefferson Street United Methodist Church, but starting this week he’s headed to a new job in Washington, D.C., in Sen. Thad Cochran’s office. Charboneau will be a Senate page until January. He’ll have a great opportunity to learn and make contacts, and we wish him the best of luck.

In other news:

Vidalia signed an engineering contract on its proposed recreation complex. It’s exciting to see the plans for the area, and we know the complex will be a great addition to our community.

A new Blues Trail marker was dedicated in Natchez Friday night. A great ceremony gave locals the chance to pay tribute to native and Blues great “Papa George” Lightfoot.

The regular workweek will start a bit later this week, but we know the next four days are going to be great.
