The workweek was a short one last week, but this community managed to squeeze in plenty of good news anyway.

Locals and guests enjoyed the Labor Day holiday Monday with barbecue grills and swimsuits, but things got back to normal Tuesday.

– Natchez native William Smith won the contest for this year’s Great Mississippi River Balloon Race art. His watercolor appears on posters and T-shirts on sale at the Historic Natchez Foundation.

– The Natchez Association for the Preservation of Afro-American Culture Museum downtown is now a bit more visible to the passersby. The museum hung several large weatherproof banners outside that draw attention to the artifacts and displays inside.

– The Natchez Festival of Music kicked off another season Wednesday with a musical event featuring performers who have become local favorites and auction. The festival is sure to bring us a great 20th season, and we can’t wait for May.

Labor Day marks the official end to the summer, even though we know the heat will stick around for a while. But with fall and then winter just around the corner, we know the months to come are going to be jam packed with great news in the Miss-Lou.
