Natchez soldier killed

NATCHEZ — A Natchez soldier was killed when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device in the Philippines Tuesday.

The U.S. Special Forces Command Public Affairs Office confirmed Sgt. 1st Class Christopher Shaw, 37, was killed in the incident, which happened on Jolo Island.

Shaw was in the Philippines as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. It was his second deployment with the operation.

Killed along with Shaw was Staff Sgt. Jack M. Martin III, 26, of Bethany, Okla.
