Natchez — Natchez Little Theatre will have auditions for its original holiday musical, “A Natchez Christmas Carol,” at 6 p.m. today and Friday at the Natchez Little Theatre at 319 Linton Ave. in Natchez.

This is the sixth year for the production which premiered at NLT in 2004 and aired throughout Mississippi on Mississippi Public Broadcast. The show was adapted from Charles Dickens’ classic tale by NLT Artistic and Executive Director Layne Taylor and is one of NLT’s most popular productions bringing in tour groups from all over the country and school children from across Mississippi and Louisiana.

It is set in Natchez after the Civil War with historic Natchez figures mixed in with the familiar Dickens’ characters. The uniqueness of the production is that the Cratchit family and Tiny Tim are black. The show contains familiar and popular Christmas carols of the 19th century as well as an original song, “Bah Humbug!” with lyrics by Taylor.

Chandler Warren, the author and lyricist of “Fauntleroy” is working on two new original songs to add to the show which will be directed by Lynn Mann, NLT’s vice president of production, with musical direction by Donna Schaffer of Alcorn State University Music Department.

A large multi-racial cast of all ages is needed, and no experience is necessary. Audtions will involve reading from the script and singing a Christmas carol that you already know.

NLT is always looking for more and new talent. This year Willette Klausner, the producer of the upcoming Broadway musical “Oliver Twist” will attend the show’s opening in search of a new star to play Oliver Twist in this new musical production that will feature a black cast.
