As the Halloween decorations — and even a few Christmas decorations — go up around us, we remember that the fall is a great time to live in the Miss-Lou.

Never too cold, the sometimes-lower temperatures are a welcome change. Cooler temperatures brought several fun events to the Miss-Lou last week and even more good news.

Let’s review a few of the good things that happened last week.

4Seventy-five walkers raised nearly $10,000 Saturday morning for the March of Dimes. The non-profit aimed at eliminating premature birth is a cause we can all get behind.

4 Locals got to work this weekend for the annual Make a Difference Day. Morgantown Elementary School and Kyle’s House benefited from groups willing to work.

4 A local man is working to preserve a portion of America’s history — on film. Bill Slatter is working on a series of documentary-style interviews of local World War II veterans. We thank Mr. Slatter for his commitment to saving valuable stories and honoring the men of the greatest generation.

4 Alcorn State University has partnered with Trinity Episcopal School to better teach high school students in Biology I. The college-level teaching style will help prepare these students for great futures.

As Halloween approaches, we know the candy won’t be the only good stuff in the Miss-Lou this week.
