NATCHEZ — Services for Alva Ruth Milam McCraven Dunn, 89, of Natchez, who died Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Paul Southerland and the Rev. David McGuffee officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. until service time Thursday, both at the funeral home.
Mrs. Dunn was born June 25, 1920, in Rosston, Ark., the daughter of Hooper D. and Bertie Huey Milam. She was employed by International Paper Company in Camden, Ark., and retired from Holsum Bakery in Natchez. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fay F. Dunn; three brothers, Douglas, Homer and Huey Milam; one sister, Annie Mae Milam Underwood; one son, James F. Dunn Sr.; two daughters-in-law, Rita Dukes Dunn and Sherry Kenney McCraven; one son-in-law, Ray Partridge; six grandchildren, Lee McCraven, Carey McCraven, Shelton E. Dunn Sr., James F. Dunn Jr., W. Ray Partridge Jr., and George G. Partridge.
Survivors include four children, Earl McCraven and wife, Greer, of Brookhaven, Carl E. Dunn and wife, Barbara, and Patsy Partridge, all of Natchez, and Mary McCraven Pickering and husband, Oren, of Greenwell Springs, La.; one daughter-in-law, Janice Dunn of Natchez; three sisters, Dorothy Tackett of Camden, Eunice Milam Haskins and husband, Kermit, of Sheridan, Ark., Louise Milam Buzbee and husband, Neal, of Tinsman, Ark.; 16 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be great-grandsons, Jonathan Cooper, Lee Corley, Adam Conerly, Shelton Dunn Jr., Matthew “Trey” Hebert III, Preston Hebert, Scott McCraven, Matthew Overturf, Jeremy Partridge, Josef Pickering, Matthew Pickering, Jeremy Truitt, Chad Wactor, Ethan Weeks, Scott Weeks, Nicholas Partridge and Cody Partridge.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or Highland Baptist Church.
