NEW ERA, La. — Graveside services for J.W. Pruitt, 88, of New Era, La., who died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, in New Era, were Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at New Era Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Russell Crum and the Rev. Scott Ensminger officiating.
Burial followed under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Mr. Pruitt was born Sept. 29, 1921, in New Era, the son of John Jerome Pruitt and Susie Hedrick Pruitt. His employment included oilfield construction and was a mechanic for Scotties Auto in Monterey.
Mr. Pruitt proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joly Pruitt; his parents; one grandson, Lee Dale Jr.; one son-in-law, Scottie Ensminger; two brothers, Barney Pruitt and Edward Pruitt; and four sisters, Bessie Pease, Laura Felder, Ola Frazier and Vera Flaherty.
Survivors include four stepchildren, Coleen Ensminger of Monterey, Lee Dale and wife, Joyce, Lane Dale and wife, Felicia, all of New Era and Joe Dale and wife, Patrice of Breaux Bridge, La.; 13 grandchildren, Scott and Kim Ensminger, Michael Ensminger, Jared Ensminger, Brian and Nikki Dale, Rory and Tara, Christopher Dale, Logan Dale, Hanna and Justin Duhan and Steven “Bubba” Dale; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Brian Dale, Jared Ensminger, Steven “Bubba” Dale, Michael Ensminger, Rory Dale and Christopher Dale.
Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Dean Burnette, Winston Flaherty, Byron Pruitt, Milton Sanders and W.L. Paul.
