PORT GIBSON — Services for Ernest William Jackson, 77, of Port Gibson, who died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at the Veterans Administration Hospital, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at King David Christian Church with the Rev. Percy Terrell officiating.
Burial will follow at Hermanville Cemetery under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home in Port Gibson.
Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Jackson was born Feb. 1, 1932, in Leesburg, Fla., the son of Joe Jackson and Annie Mae Taylor. He was a graduate of Matthew Gilbert High School in Florida and attended Purdue College in Hammond, Ind. He was employed by Pullman Standard as a welder.
Mr. Jackson was a member of King David Christian Church; Masonic Lodge No. 49 in Hammond; VFW Post-Jeff P. Ruffin No. 6582 Commander; and civil defense sergeant in Hammond.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Mary L. Jackson; six sons, Verlon B. Jackson Sr. of Hammond, Joe E. Bailey of Hermanville, Willie H. Bailey of Greensboro, N.C., Ernest W. Jackson Jr., Ricky Jackson, both of New York, and Latrell Brown of Florida; five daughters, Arodesia L. Burden and husband, Roderick, Carolyn Dorsey and husband, Johnny Lee, and Hattie Fae Barnes and husband, Eddie, all of Port Gibson, Cinder Louise Bailey of Hermanville, and Phyllis Jackson of New York; one brother, Joe Jackson Jr.; one sister, Margaret Moore, both of Lakeland, Fla.; one uncle, Benny Jennings; one aunt, Mildred Jennings, both of Port Gibson; special cousin, Ruthie Lee Simmons of Leesburg, Fla.; special daughter-in-law, Shirleen Brinner of Port Gibson; four special friends, Percy Reed, Ray Porter, both of Port Gibson, M.C. and Ernestine Dulaney of Vicksburg; special niece, Alexus D. Barber of Hammond; two brothers-in-law, Kenneth and wife, Clara, and Willie White Jr. and wife, Vivian; two sisters-in-law, Lottie Smith and LaDonna Davis and husband, Bobby; 17 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.
