NATCHEZ — Service for Betty Jean Weeks Rand, 78, of Natchez, who died Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Bart Walker officiating.
Burial will follow at Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
A family luncheon will be at Parkway Baptist Church immediately following the burial.
Mrs. Rand was born Jan. 9, 1931 in Natchez, the daughter of the Rev. H.L. Weeks and Lela Pearl Cobb Weeks. She married A.D. Rand on Sept. 9, 1949, and they spent 53 years together in Natchez.
She was a devoted homemaker and dedicated her life to nurturing her family. Mrs. Rand was well known for her baked goods, especially her cakes, most of which she gave to friends and donated to church and school events.
She was a member of Parkway Baptist Church and also attended Pine Ridge Baptist Church. Mrs. Rand volunteered her services in the nursery at Parkway Baptist Church for many years. She also served as secretary of the Pine Ridge Homemakers Association and had several positions in the ACCS Band Booster Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Survivors include two sons, Ed Rand and wife, LeJean of Natchez and Fred Rand and wife Melissa Rand of Brandon; three grandchildren, Nici Davenport, Andrew Rand and Joshua Rand.
Pallbearers will be Glen Peoples, Joe Peoples, R.W. Jennings, Bill Holland and Stephen Davenport.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Scott, Howard French, Robert Marler, Charles Laird and Noland Wilson.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all of those who helped them through the last few weeks with their thoughts, prayers and numerous offers to help.
