BROOKHAVEN — Anyone who has watched the Centreville Tigers play football in years past knows this team doesn’t go down easy.
But even double overtime wasn’t enough time for the Tigers Friday.
Centreville (9-4) scored a touchdown to make it 57-56 against Brookhaven Academy in the second overtime. The Tigers went for two points and the win. But the conversion was no good and the Cougars escaped with the win to improve to 13-0 on the season.
The loss was the second of the season to Brookhaven, who defeated Centreville 45-30 in the regular season.
The loss ended Centreville’s attempt at three straight Class AA state championships.
Brookhaven Academy will take on River Oaks, a 21-14 winner over Bowling Green, for the Class AA South State championship next Friday at 7 p.m.
