VIDALIA — Services for John Mays Sr., 56, of Marrero, La., formerly of Ferriday, who died Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, at West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero, will be at noon Saturday at St. Stephens Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie Birdon officiating.

Burial will follow at Whitehall Cemetery in Vidalia under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Mays was born Jan. 8, 1953, in Natchez, the son of Willie and Erma Webster Mays. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Survivors include his wife, Lolita Chatman Mays; four sons, John Mays Jr. and wife, Brandi, of Melissa, Texas, Michael Chatman and wife, Natasha, and Joshua Mays, all of Austell, Ga., and Jonathan Mays of Marrero; two daughters, Daphne Mays and Clarissa Mays, both of Marrero; his father of Ferriday; 10 brothers, Andrew Webster and wife, Marilyn, of Bridge City, La., Taft Webster and wife, Brenda, of Lafayette, La., Harold Webster and wife, Sharon, Roosevelt Mays and wife, Faye, Wilford Mays and wife, Miranda, Freddie Mays and wife, Phronel, all of Ferriday, Nathaniel and wife, Barbara, Charles Mays and wife, Diane, Louis Mays and John Edward Mays, all of Sacramento, Calif.; five sisters, Priscilla Lyles and Diane Mays, both of Ferriday, Odesta Mays, Joyce Mays, and Ruth Hester and husband, Billy, all of Sacramento; seven grandchildren, Michael, Nakayla Mays, Bionca, Johnathan Jr., Justin, John III and Akira Mays; two aunts, Leola Webster of Vidalia and Rosie Lee Hagans of Ferriday; two uncles, Percy Johnson and wife, Catherine, and Joe Mays and wife, Margaret; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins; four sisters-in-law, Ellen Reynolds and husband, Cleveland, of Vidalia, Jimmie Chatman of Houston, Texas, Sandra Baker of Chicago and Sharon Hooper and husband, Arnold, of Georgia; and two brothers-in-law, Bobby Golden and wife, Judy, and Verne Chatman and wife, Kim, of Gulfport.
