VIDALIA — The initial funding for the Vidalia port project waits only on the President’s signature.

The $1.46 million in funding was included in the omnibus appropriations bill, which was approved by the Senate 57-35 Sunday.

U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu placed the port appropriation in the bill.

The appropriation was specifically to fund the construction of an access road to the future site of the slack water loading and unloading facility on the Mississippi River near the second Vidalia industrial park.
