Trinity girls, boys pick up district wins

TALLULAH, La. — The Trinity Lady Saints recovered from a heartbreaking 41-40 loss to Jackson Prep over the weekend to win their district opener in dominating performance against Tallulah Academy.
The Lady Saints kept up the defensive intensity they have played with the entire season in a 56-41 victory Monday night.
Trinity (8-3, 1-0) never let Tallulah score more than 13 points in any quarter in crusing to the victory.
The Lady Saints led 17-8 after one quarter and took a 28-16 lead into halftime.
The Lady Saints offense was led by Madelyn Cross — who scored 19 points to go along with 17 rebounds — and Brandis White, who scored 16 points.
Bethany Ogden also had a big game for Trinity, pitching in with 11 points and 15 rebounds.
Katie Book and Allie Kate Gossett led Tallulah with 12 points each while Megan Givens scored 10 points in the losing effort.
Trinity boys 62, Tallulah 31
Trinity was on the receiving end of a blowout against Jackson Prep last Saturday, and on Monday they got the opportunity to put the hurt on their opponent.
The Saints led 30-4 after the first quarter and cruised to a victory in the final three quarters.
Givonni Dent was the only player in double figures for Trinity, but he was in high double figures with 27 points.
Jake Winston had eight and L.J. Trimble had seven points for the Saints in the victory.
Trinity’s defense was suffocating, as Tallulah only scored 12 points in the first half and 18 points in the first three quarters before scoring 13 points in the fourth against Trinity’s reserves.
With the win, the Saints improved to 4-3 overall and 2-0 in district play.
Trinity’s boys and girls will be in action Friday at Tensas Academy.
