Roger Killingsworth

ALEXANDRIA, La. — Services for Roger Allison Killingsworth, 88, who died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Julia Nance-Ferrell and the Rev. Jimmie Pyles officiating.

Burial will follow at Alexandria Memorial Gardens under the direction of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home in Alexandria.

Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Mr. Killingsworth was born Oct. 25, 1921, near Lorman. He was a 1944 graduate of Texas A&M University, a 32nd degree Mason and an Elder in the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A.

Upon graduation from Texas A&M University, Roger returned to his home in Chatfield, Ark., to assist and later to be responsible for the management of Mallory Farms, a cotton plantation. In the early 1960s, he moved to Jonesville, La., to manage the development of Louisiana Delta Plantation. In 1970, he established Killingsworth & Associates, an independent agricultural consulting, farm management, brokerage and appraisal firm providing services for banks, development companies, international consortia and private land owners from Texas to North Carolina.

He was a member of the American Society of Agricultural Consultants and the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers.

Flying was not only a business necessity but a favorite hobby.

Mr. Killingsworth was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Jonesville for more than 35 years and served as an Elder, Sunday school teacher, Clerk of Session and treasurer.

Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Margaret Smith Killingsworth; one daughter, Margaret Granville Killingsworth; one son, Roger Allison Killingsworth Jr.; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Pines Presbytery Disaster Relief Fund or the Presbytery of South Louisiana Disaster Relief Fund c/o First Presbyterian Church, 357 Windermere Blvd., Alexandria, LA 71303.
