VIDALIA — After running a red light and running from an officer, three Concordia Parish residents are now in custody at the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office.

According to a statement released by the CPSO, Autry Tobias Smith, 32, of Ferriday, Luvenson Sowell, 43, of Vidalia, and Johnell Evans, 19, of Ferriday, were arrested after CPSO Sgt. Denis Mulvihill initiated the traffic stop just before noon Wednesday.

Mulvihill reported that after the 1989 Caprice came to a stop outside Concordia Bank on Carter Street, Smith, the driver, attempted to flee on foot while he was being searched for weapons.

CPSO Sgt. Todd Ainsworth Tased Smith after commanding him to stop.

It was during this time that Mulvihill drew his gun on the remaining two men to hold them while both officers waited on backup.

Re-enforcement from the CPSO, Louisiana State Police and Vidalia Police Department soon arrived at the scene.

After searching the vehicle, officers found open containers of whiskey and beer.

Officers also found an ice pick and two knives in Evans’ coat pocket.

All three men were taken to the CPSO jail.

Smith was arrested on charges of red light violation, no driver’s license, violation of open container law, resisting an officer by flight, no seat belt and careless operation.

Sowell and Evans were both arrested on charges of seat belt and open container law violations.
