GRENADA — Services for Charles Henry Sullivan, 91, who died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at Adams County Nursing Center, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at National Funeral Home in Grenada.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Sullivan was born Aug. 15, 1918, in Avalon, the son of Charlie Hemphill Sullivan and Johnnie Belle Powell Sullivan. He attended Duck Hill High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war, he was employed at the Durant Hosiery Mill until it closed in 1955. He also worked on the construction of Alvin Callender Field in Belle Chasse, La., until 1957 when he moved his family to Natchez.

Mr. Sullivan was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier for 25 years until his retirement in 1980. During his retirement years, he was an avid domino player and enjoyed playing with his close friend, Bruce Curlee.

He was a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Woodmen of the World, United Commercial Travelers and Elks BPOE. He was a Mason and a Shriner. Mr. Sullivan was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church for 25 years.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Sullivan and Robert Sullivan; and two sisters, Katie Nix and Frances Harris.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Sarah Evelyn Watson Sullivan; two children, Charles Leonard Sullivan of Perkinston and Janet Sullivan of Natchez; one granddaughter, Leigh Sullivan Roberge; one great-grandson, Collin Roberge, both of Frisco, Texas; two sisters, Winnie Scott of Florence and Elsie Rast of Pearl; and two half-sisters, Charlene Lewis and Peggy Blackwell, both of Brookhaven.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Charles Sullivan to the Natchez Children’s Home, 806 N. Union St., Natchez 39120-2841 or a charity of choice.
