NATCHEZ — Two Natchez residents pleaded guilty Tuesday in U.S. Federal Court to charges they embezzled union funds while serving as officers in the International Guards Union of America-local 123 in Port Gibson.
Prosecutors allege that Ron Quinn and Rebecca James embezzled $11,147 in funds generated by union dues between January and August 2008, when Quinn was serving as union president and James was secretary-treasurer.
Prosecutors allege the two got debit cards on the union’s bank account and embezzled the funds through false checks, use of the debit cards and a trip to Orlando for training that was available in the Natchez area.
When the two entered their guilty pleas, their attorneys said the pair admitted to some guilt but reserved the right to object to the amount of the embezzlement and to some of the actions the prosecutors stipulated they had committed when they are sentenced.
The two will be subject to restitution, which will be determined by the amount of loss by embezzlement the court determines the pair actually perpetuated on the union.
Both are set to be sentenced March 23.
