WCCA Lady Rams take victory as boys fall in overtime

WOODVILLE — The Wilkinson County Christian Lady Rams held a tenuous one-point lead over Central Private after the first three quarters of play Monday night.
But a strong fourth quarter performance put any doubts of victory to bed as the Lady Rams picked up their first district win of the season with a 46-37 victory.
WCCA led just 26-25 at the end of the third quarter, but outscored Central Private 20-12 in the fourth period to pull away for the victory.
It was a bit of an odd scoring night for the Lady Rams, who scored 35 of their 46 points in the second and fourth quarters.
In the first and third quarters, WCCA scored just six and five points, respectively.
Caroline Walker led WCCA (7-10, 1-2) with 14 points while Terry Fisher scored 12 and Mary Claire Netterville chipped in with eight.
Central Private was led by Jessica Creel with 17 points and Hailey Ussery with 14.

The WCCA Rams fought back in the fourth quarter to tie the score, but couldn’t continue the momentum into overtime in a two-point loss to Central Private.
Central Private led 35-30 after the third quarter, but WCCA outscored them 14-9 in the final period to force overtime. However, Central Private recovered to outscore the Rams 10-8 in the extra period and take the victory.
WCCA trailed 13-7 at the end of the first quarter and never could dig itself out of the early hole, as the Rams fell to 8-7 overall and 1-2 in district play.
Luke Whittaker led WCCA with 18 points while Tip McKenzie scored 16 and Ethan Carruth tallied 12.
Central Private was led by Lance Wicker with 17 points, Conerly White with 12 and Matt Wallace with 10.
